The guidance of the LORD
Theme: The LORD preserves his people through his Word and by his Spirit; let Biblical principle guide your decision-making
The Urim and Thummim
And in the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim and the Thummim…the high priest shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD…”If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O LORD, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.” – Exodus 28:30; Numbers 27:21; 1 Samuel 14:41
Likely two stones of different colouring, the Urim and Thummim would be kept in the ephod (breastplate) of the high priest and give a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ answer to questions. By this means the LORD gave direct guidance to his old covenant king.
A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, “Is not David hiding among us?” – Superscription to Psalm 54
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. – Proverbs 17:7
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:2-5
