What exactly must happen in a person's life for them to become a Christian? How does conversion work?
According to the majority of Christians, God has made it possible for everyone to believe in Christ if / when they hear the gospel. The will of man is free and able to choose for or against God. In contrast however, God's Word teaches us that he must first give us new life because we are dead in our sins and trespasses. The Holy Spirit must give us the power and the will to hold onto Christ. If God does not make us alive, we cannot put our trust in him.
